My Personal Resources....All About Fabrics

These websites will help me when I am designing because I will need to know what kind of fabrics I can use for specific garments. I would also have to know how different fabrics will react when washed.

http://www.fibersource.com/

This site is fantastic. It provides information about many of the different manufactured fabrics that are used when making garments. Fabrics mentioned on this site include nylon and polyester. Some of the information about the fabrics includes: brief washing instructions, fiber characteristics, fabric uses, and even a definition of the specific fiber. There is also a list of links to other websites that have to do with man made fabrics. These sites include information on: fiber information, technology, and standards.

http://www.fabrics.net/natural.asp

This website has information on natural fibers like cotton and wool. Information is provided about different sub-fabric types for each fiber. For example, wool has multiple characteristics and names that are not commonly associated with wool, like angora or mohair. There is also information about how natural fibers are processed and even the different names and characteristics of fabrics the fibers are made into.

My next resource provides care advice on different types of fabrics, both manufactured and natural. This site provides information on: what the fabric is used for, how to remove different types of stains, how to wash the fabric, how to care for the fabric, and how to store the fabric.

My Personal Resources....General

I have found three resources I can use that will help me gather information about the fashion industry.

http://www.fashion.net/

One of the first resources I found was fashion.net. I found this site useful because it has a ton of information about: fashion, luxe living, art, shopping, and work. This website provides information on: designers, clothing labels, fashion magazines, informational blogs, information on your body, magazines, travel vintage clothing, bags, photography, architecture, music, job listings, model agencies, and even global fashion. The information can be used when designing clothing. I can see what is currently fashionable, I can look at other designers clothing, and I can gather inspirations from things like architecture and art.

The second resource I found for myself was thefashiontool.com. This site is all about jobs. You can post a resume and look at jobs in areas like fashion design, merchandising, and internships. I can use this by posting a resume and looking at jobs that are available in the area I want to go into and what city I want to work in.

My next resource is a blog that I found and love. Each post is unique and complete with wonderful pictures about the fashion industry. This blog gives opinions on: movies, trends, and also provides links to other fashion related blogs. I like reading others' opinions and thoughts on fashion and the current trends. This blog can provide inspiration, information, and public opinions. Plus it is just fun to look at other people's personal creative side that comes out on a personal website.
